Hi Gang! Today we were docked in the city of Luanda in the country of Angola on the continent of Africa. Luanda is nestled along the shores of the Atlantic Ocean and is the capital and largest city of Angola. Luanda’s story dates back centuries, shaped by Portuguese colonization, African heritage, and the struggle for independence.
We did a 4 hour tour that was supposed to start at 8:45 but we were delayed docking at the port so we didn’t start until 9:45. Our tour was called “Beach Escape to Ilha de Luanda”. We started by driving along the Marginal (beachfront road) towards the city center and stopped and visited the San Miguel Fort.
At the fort we learned the Angolans fought the Dutch for the fort from 1641 to 1648 and took it over. There was a major Civil War that came about when two brothers disagreed on how the country was being run. The country experienced major suffering from 1962 to 2002. They finally gained their independence on Nov 11, 1975.
We then drove to the ocean front resort called Lookal Beach Club. We hung there for a couple hours and just lounged by the pool. They had given us a $20 per person credit to buy food and drinks. So of course we had to get our money’s worth. It was also nice hanging with our good friends Diane and Warren.
We then came back to the ship and had a late lunch. We were lucky and got a passenger game in (Top Toss) and earned another Regent point. We then got ready for dinner (remember, we’re on 2 hour feedings! Lol).
Tonight we had dinner in the Steakhouse specialty restaurant named Prime 7. While we love eating with other friends it’s also nice just having dinner ourselves. The food is so good I usually eat way too much and guess what? I did again today! And the bonus… you get food pics!
I had the Diver Scallop for my appetizer and for my main I had the big ol’ 18 oz Bone-In Ribeye and for dessert (not sure how I stuffed it in!) we shared the 14 (yep 14!!) layer Chocolate Cake. I was very full but very satisfied!
After dinner we went to the 9:30 PM show with the Guest Entertainer/Magician named Stuart Lightbody. He is from South Africa and is the South African Magic Champion. His show was called “The Man with the Golden Hands” and he did lots of card tricks and sleight of hand magic. He had us all guessing!!
After the show we called it a night. Tomorrow is another sea day to sleep in and we turn the clocks back to gain an extra hour’s sleep (Double Yay!). Hope everyone had a great day!
