Hi Folks! We made it to Tokyooo! It was a breeze getting checked in and thru security in San Fran. Having Premium Economy gave us access to the British Airways airport lounge which was very nice and had great food. Pot Stickers anyone?? Lol
The Premium Economy seats on Japan Airlines are really nice! The seats are like Lazy Boy recliners and you sorta have your own little pod. The food and service were also top notch. The flight was 11 hours long so not for the faint of heart but we know it will all be worth it.
Once we landed in Tokyo, it was a breeze getting thru customs and immigration. We got our luggage with no problem and headed to catch the airport limousine bus to our hotel (take the word limousine loosely! Lol). I researched and found a bus that takes us directly to our hotel and also costs only $8 a person! Do you get the sense I’m a thrifty traveler?? And the bus was really comfortable!
We got checked into our hotel and decided not to give in to the urge to just crash! So we walked around the hotel area to get our bearings. We’re right next to a huge metro station so that should make getting around Tokyo a lot easier.
We had a nice first (tired) evening in Tokyo. We’re also right near a 7-11 and everyone says they have the best snacks and the ATMs with the best exchange rate so we went there to get some Yen. We also got some snacks for tomorrow. Having been fed so well by both the British Airways lounge and Japan Airlines, we really weren’t that hungry. But we did find the most delicious marinated chicken thighs at 7-11. Who knew??
I’m really excited about our next two full days in Tokyo. I found this local tour guide group that offers volunteers to take you around Tokyo to all the best places. And yep, it’s FREE! Of course we’ll tip them and buy their lunch but still very reasonable for a private tour guide for the day. And they really like sharing their culture and city. Friday we’re walking with Hiro and Saturday we’re with Yoshi. Should be fun!
Hope everyone had a great day! We had a looooong but fun one! Hopefully we can get on a good sleep schedule and not have too much jet lag. I’ll let you know how that goes tomorrow! We did take some “No Jet Lag” pills so hopefully that will help!
