World Cruise – Regent Seven Seas Mariner – 154 Days – Cadiz, Spain – Day 143 – Pics Part 1!

Monday June 1, 2026

Hi Folks! Happy June! Can you believe we’re almost half way thru 2026?? And that we’ve been traveling out of the country most of that time?? Life is good and long live 2026!!

So we were docked in the city of Cadiz, Spain but did we stay here today? Nope! We did a tour called “White Villages of Andalusia”. I did some travel thru Spain about 8 years ago and had stopped in one of the White Villages and that’s where we went today!

It was a town called Arcos de La Frontera (love that name!). The old town features narrow, winding one-way streets and features a stunning blend of Moorish (Islamic) and Medieval architecture. There is a central square called Plaza del Cabildo that offers breathtaking panoramic views of the valley below.

The name comes from two parts, the first part Arcos, is derived from the Latin word arcus meaning “arch” to signify all the arches that span the narrow streets. The second part de La Frontera means “of the frontier”, because it served as the frontline defense between the Christian kingdoms and the Moorish territories. How cool is that?

The town makes you feel like you stepped back in time to the Medieval days. It had this massive church called the Basilica of Santa Maria de la Asunción that was right on the town square. So beautiful!

I’ll let the pictures do the talking. There were so many cool doors and doorways there that the second set of pics were some of the unique doors of Arcos de la Frontera. Enjoy!

PS: The last pic looks like the Ku Klux Klan but it’s not! It’s a statue of men wearing robes carrying crosses during Easter week (called Semana Santa – Holy Week) and the men wear robes to do penance for their sins. I actually got to see that when I was here 8 years ago. It was Wild!
