Hi Gang! Today we were docked in Busan, South Korea. It’s the second largest city in South Korea after Seoul. This will be our last port in South Korea and we really liked both Busan and South Korea overall. Tomorrow we head back to Japan!
We did another private tour with our group from yesterday. Today’s tour stopped in five places which were Haedong Yonggungsa Temple, the elevated Skywalk, the Busan Air Cruise/Cable Car, Lunch at a traditional Korean BBQ restaurant, and the Gamcheon Culture Village.
The temple, with its setting along the ocean, was probably the coolest temple we’ve visited. Lots of Buddhas! We then walked along the elevated skywalk where you could see right down thru the glass to the ocean below. A little scary actually! From there we rode the cable car back across the bay and saw some nice views.
Then it was on to lunch! We went to a Korean BBQ restaurant where you cooked your own beef. It was sooo tasty! And like the other day, they have you wrap it in lettuce and add condiments to eat it. It was a fun experience!
Our last stop was to the Gamcheon Culture Village. It’s a colorful hillside neighborhood famous for its pastel-colored terraced houses, maze-like alleyways, and vibrant street art. Originally founded in the 1920s-1930s, it was later expanded by Korean War refugees who built staircase-style homes on the steep mountain slopes. It was revitalized through a 2009 public art project. It’s been nicknamed Korea’s Santorini!
After the tour we got back onboard and got ready for dinner. Tonight is Orange night, to honor Holland’s Dutch heritage so we dressed in our orange duds! We went to the main dining room and I had the Pea Soup for my appetizer, the Dover Sole for my main, and the hot fudge sundae for dessert.
After dinner, since there wasn’t a show due to all the various orange party festivities around the ship, we listened to both the guitarist and pianist to end our night. Tomorrow we’re in Fukuako, Japan. We stopped there on the first leg of our cruise but plan to do see some different things this time. Hope everyone had a great day!
