Hi Gang! First and foremost Happy Halloween to you all! Hope you get more treats than tricks today! Well, today we did something really scary… we went to the DeMilitarized Zone (DMZ) between North and South Korea! It was very cool but a little scary. These troops came onto our bus with guns and checked all of our psssports. I wish I could have shown more pictures but most places cameras weren’t allowed. But we made it back safe and “Rocket Man” didn’t get us!
We were actually docked in the port city of Incheon, South Korea. Which is about 1.5 hours to the DMZ and a little over an hour to Seoul, the capital city. I’ll let the pictures do the talking since we got back late and I’m tired! We saw the Korean War Memorial, a Korean Wedding (so cool!), the DMZ, we walked down this steep tunnel that the North Koreans had dug to try to invade South Korea, a Peace Bell, and the Prisoner of War bridge where the POWs walked back from North Korea.
We also saw a statue of Harry Truman commemorating the involvement of US Troops in the war along with a plaque honoring the USA for being the first country to commit troops to the war. We sent 1.8 million troops and 92,000 were wounded and 36,500 were killed. The war started on June 25, 1950 and ended on July 27, 1953. My Dad served proudly in that war and luckily came back alive. I could really feel his presence when I was there.
We stopped for a great local lunch of pork dumplings, noodles, kimchi, and pickled radishes. It was very yummy. We got back late and went to the dining room for a late dinner. We stopped by the Rolling Stones lounge and saw lots of fun Halloween costumes and the ship was decorated for Halloween. We are docked overnight in Incheon and we have an early excursion to go back to Seoul tomorrow and spend the day. Hope everyone had a great Halloween!
