HAL Westerdam – 33 day Japan/South Korea – Day 23 – Yeosu, South Korea – Final Pics!

Thursday Oct 29, 2026

Hi Folks! Another day, another country! Today we were docked in Yeosu, South Korea. Our tour took us to three places which were the Yeosu Cable Car, the Yeosu Fish Market, and the Jinnamgwan Hall. The cable car ride was pretty long and took us over this cool bridge named the Geobukseon Bridge. We could also see this red lighthouse called the Hamel Lighthouse named after the Dutch sailor who was kept in prison here for 13 years. The views from both the cable car and platform area were really nice.

We then went to the fish market where of course there were tons of fish. I think we’re sorta fish marketed out since we’ve seen so many and the smells are horrid! So we spent time walking around the area and found our favorite store… a 7-11! We love all the unique snacks and foods they have! So much different than 7-11’s in the States!

Our last stop was to Jinnamgwan Hall which is one of the largest wooden structures in the country and was the headquarters for the soldiers during the 16th-century invasion by the Japanese. At the bottom of the hill is a large statue of Yi Sun-Sin who is a national hero for saving Korea from the Japanese. He’s standing on his boat called the Geobukseon, which stands for “Turtle Ship” since its protective cover was like a turtle shell protecting the troops inside.

We got back on the ship and got ready for dinner. We went to the main dining room and I had the Shrimp Tacos for my appetizer, the Sugar-Crusted Salmon for my main, and the Artisanal Cheese Selection for my dessert (none of the sweet desserts sounded good!). Yummy all the way!

After dinner we went to the show put on by the HAL singers and dancers called “Solid Gold”. They sang all the old 70’s music and we were all tapping our toes and singing along. It was a great show! Afterwards we did our normal routine of listening to our favorite piano player Kelly. Tomorrow is a sea day. YAY! Hope everyone had a great day!

PS: We also saw another replica of the Statue of Liberty on top of a building. They really love Lady Liberty over here!

PSS: Remember that active volcano we were at in Kagoshima a couple days ago named Sakurajima? Remember how it had a small eruption that day? Today it had a MAJOR eruption that spewed ash over 11,000 feet in the air! Just missed it (thank God!!)
