Rome to Athens – Journey to the Aegean – Day 10 – Split, Croatia – Final Pics!

Thurs Aug 8, 2024

Hi Again Gang! Tonight we switched it up and went to the buffet restaurant for dinner. We were still stuffed from having a big lunch and eating all that yummy food at Stella Croatica so we decided to wait and eat around 8 PM. Eating that late at Compass Rose usually means we can’t make the 9:30 PM show since it gets very busy between 8 and 9 PM.

The La Veranda buffet restaurant during the day changes over to an Italian restaurant named Sette Mari at night and while you can order a full meal, you can also do a buffet for a quicker meal. So we opted for that but it meant me giving up my lobster obsession! So yes, my 8 day lobster streak was broken today! Oh well, my cholesterol levels and cardiologist applauded the move!

But sadly we still ate too much! They start you off with an assortment of breads, olives, cheeses, and other goodies. Sounds like what we had at Stella Croatica! Then we both got the Meatballs in Marinara Sauce for a starter. For her main, Kathy got the Veal Scallopini and I got the Risotto Ai Frutti di Mari. We actually skipped dessert (unheard of but much needed!).

Tonight was a piano night all night. After dinner we went to the show which was a pianist named Panos Karan. He was born in Greece and was educated at the Royal Academy of Music in London. He has played at Carnegie Hall, the Sydney Opera House and many other famous places. He played mostly classical music from Chopin, Bach, Beethoven, etc. But he was also very funny and spoke between songs and shared interesting stories.

After the show we listened to the pianist in the Observation Lounge who played Latin and Bossa Nova music. Just like the song says “Blame it on the Bossa Nova”! And he played my favorite Latin song which is “The Girl From Ipanema”. Reminds me of my very first international trip at the age of 25 to Rio de Janeiro where I stood on Ipanema Beach. That’s what started my Wanderlust!

We are excited to go back to Kotor, Montenegro tomorrow. It has the only fjord in the Mediterranean! The sail in to Kotor in the early morning hours is one of the coolest things to experience. Can’t wait! Hope everyone had a great Thursday!
