Antarctica – Day 26 – Buenos Aires!

Wednesday Feb 1, 2023

Hi All! Happy February! Well we pretty much missed January in the Carolinas. But we had summer then winter and now summer again, all in one month! We docked this morning in Buenos Aires and the ship will stay here tomorrow since it will take a new group of people to Antarctica just redoing the route we just took. We loved this trip so much we were thinking of sneaking back on!

Today we did another all day trip coordinated thru Diego. But this time, rather than just the four of us, we picked up another couple. But funny thing is, they are getting on our cruise ship tomorrow to do the Antarctica cruise and they just spent three days in Iguazu Falls like we’re going to do! So in essence, they’re doing our same trip but just backwards than ours. They were really helpful with tips for Iguazu and we shared our tips about the cruise. It worked out great!

The tour really covered a lot of the city. We went from the most wealthy neighborhoods of Recoleta and Palermo to the rougher parts of town like Boca. We walked thru Recoleta Cemetery which had almost 5,000 gravesites and many having amazing stories about the families. Even Peron, who was depicted in the movie Evita, and also said “Don’t Cry for me, Argentina” is buried there and that site gets the most visitors.

We went to this beautiful bookstore that used to be a theater. After that we had the most amazing lunch together as a group. The traditional food there is lots of meat (beef, sausage, etc.) and they call it asada. It was sooooo good. We also had empanadas for an appetizer and flan for dessert. We were all stuffed when we left there.

Tomorrow we wake up early and get off the ship for good but have a 10:45 AM flight to Iguazu Falls. We can’t wait to see that! It was an amazing 22 day cruise and the sites we saw, especially Antarctica, will never be forgotten and we hope to return some day. And I was also very lucky that Kathy didn’t throw me overboard at least once! Lol

Hope everyone had a great Hump Day!
