Grandkids are better than International Travel!

Well folks this wandering Italian who has the insatiable wanderlust and loves traveling the world found something even better during these crazy last two years of Covid… Grandkids!

Hello to all and welcome back to my travel blog! I hope these last two years (my last post was in March 2020 from Montevideo, Uruguay) have been good to you. I know it was a tough two years for the whole world and we lost many good people to Covid but I truly hope we’re near the end of it and the world can start returning to normalcy.

I was truly blessed with two adorable grandsons during 2020 (one biological and one adopted).  Both are the love of my life and I enjoy spending time with them. But I have to share the amazing story of my adopted grandson. He was born several months premature, abandoned by his mother at birth, not wanted by his father either so my amazing daughter and son-in-law started fostering him at 9 days old. His eyes were fused shut, he had a feeding tube and was on a ventilator. They went to the NICU to see him and hold him every day for the 109 days he was there (while she was pregnant with my first grandchild!). When he was finally discharged, he was the longest baby to stay in the NICU so he earned his little cap and gown! After struggling his first year with various health issues, you fast forward to his first birthday and he’s enjoying his “smash cake” like any 1 year old. Later that year came the day we were all waiting for when he was officially adopted into our family! I included several photos from that special day but the one of him sitting next to the judge while she signs the adoption papers is priceless.

Fast forward even further he is just a typical 2 year old that loves kicking the soccer ball and having fun with his brother. I’ve included several pics of both of them. They are both a hoot!

His story inspired me to make some big changes in my life. At the end of May I am moving closer to them so I can spend more time with both of them. I also decided to get back on the travel bandwagon and am doing a 7 night cruise to see the Fjords of Norway leaving this week so look for more blog entries on that.

I also, back in May 2020, came out of retirement and went back to work at Bank of America to ride out the Covid quarantine and am still enjoying my job and working there.

I hope you enjoyed this “non-travel” post and will follow along with me on my upcoming journey thru the Fjords of Norway!
