Gooooooooood Mooooooooorning Vietnammmmm!
One of my millions of followers suggested I should have said it that way, just like Robin Williams! Lol. And yes, we were in Vietnam another day today. So yesterday we spent time in the city. Today we spent time in the country.
Our tour was called “Mekong River Delta”. Sadly, this part of Vietnam is where many US soldiers lost their lives to the Viet Cong soldiers. But thankfully there was not much mention of that today. We started our tour with a bus drive to the Vinh Trang ancient pagoda.
There were many different Buddha statues there, including a very large “happy Buddha” with a big belly (what I feel like!), a sleeping Buddha, and a tall female Buddha. There was also the very tall pagoda with many Buddhas inside. After that we took a large boat on the Mekong River Delta to a village on Thoi Son Island.
It was there that we got to see how the locals lived. We also got to taste some local fruits and the local village people put on an authentic Vietnamese show with singing. We also sampled some local tea and honey. They showed us the still they use to make moonshine! And how they add a cobra snake to the moonshine and call it snake whiskey! Yuk!!
Next was the coolest part of the tour. Four people each got into a “sampan” boat and floated down this narrow waterway with a Vietnamese woman rowing and guiding the boat. We even each got to wear our own pointy headed rice hat! Lol.
We then went to a local restaurant and had a yummy lunch with all local food (including Fried Elephant Eared Fish! It was tasty!!). After that we took a boat back to the buses and returned to our ship. We started the tour at 7:15 AM but got back in time to play the 3:15 PM passenger game to win a Regent point!
We then chilled and got ready for dinner. I’ll do another update tonight. I had so many pictures, I posted two updates.
