Hi Folks! Hello Sunday! Yep, we skipped Saturday and did a “Back to the Future” leap to Sunday. Crazy time travel!! Today we are docked in Apia, Samoa.
We did a tour today called “Apia Township and Surroundings”. These whole 44 days we have had very little rain and if we did, it didn’t affect the excursions. Except for today! The skies opened up and the rain came down in buckets! So that’s why it’s so green around here!!
But luckily we were able to get under this big tent before the rain came down really hard. Other people weren’t so lucky. And the poor dancers, who were all local Samoans, had to do their traditional dance in the pouring rain. Even the fire stick twirlers did their show through the rain. Crazy!
Our next stop was to the Robert Louis Stevenson Museum. Yep, that guy. Think the author of Treasure Island, Dr Jekyll & Mr Hyde and Kidnapped. He only lived here for four years but loved it here so much he asked to be buried here. The inside had lots of dark redwood walls, the outside had beautiful gardens and it also had an interesting statue.
The statue was that of the King laying down looking up to the sky and his son was at his feet wrapped in coconut leaves since at the time the island practiced Cannibalism (YUK!) and they would cook people wrapped in coconut leaves. But as soon as the King realized it was his son all wrapped up, he stopped all cannibalism practices. Thank God!
Our last stop was at the beautiful Mulivai Cathedral. It’s a Catholic Church and was huge inside. The ceiling rotunda had a painted scene of a Samoan ceremony and the stained glass windows were so beautiful.
After that we boarded the ship and had a quick lunch and then went to play a passenger game. It was indoor Bocci and Kathy beat me! How did that happen? I’m the one that’s Italian! But we got a Regent point. YAY! We then got ready for the evening. I’ll do another update tonight. Hope everyone’s having a great Sunday! Or is it Saturday?? Who knows!
