Hi Folks! We are back on land! Today we are anchored off Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. And oh what a day it was. Went deep sea fishing and caught a 6 foot long, 130 pound Marlin!!!! It was wild. I really wish I could post a video because that Marlin was fighting like crazy and leaping out of the water. Felt like I was on a Field and Stream show. Just unreal!
There were only 20 people that did the excursion and they split us up into 4 people each on five boats. I was on with a man named Hugh from the UK and two men from China who didn’t speak English so I didn’t catch their names. Our Captain was Carlos and our First Mate was Raphael. They spoke a little English but I got to try out my old Spanish skills from high school. Pretty rough! Lol
Our boat’s name was “Reel Lucky” (get it?? Lol) and it was pretty lucky. We actually had another marlin on one of the lines but it broke the line after fighting for a little bit. I think Carlos and Raphael took the Marlin home to eat but I’m not sure. We surely weren’t going to haul it back to the ship!
And then as we’re coming back into the port we got the cutest surprise of all. This sea lion literally hung on the back of our boat and was either trying to get our Marlin or some of the fish we had in an open container at the back of the boat for our bait. He was soooooo cute! I included a pic but the video was adorable. Wish we could have taken him home!
Kathy decided not to go so I went on the fishing excursion solo. She had a good day walking around Cabo with our friends Colleen, Steve, Terry and Don. Kathy and I had both been here before and had toured the area and took a boat out to the iconic El Arco, a natural rock arch that is Cabo’s undisputed symbol. Cabo sits at the southern tip of Mexico’s Baja California Sur peninsula.
After I got back we met up in La Veranda for a late lunch, then played a quick golf game with other passengers (we won a Regent point!), and then just chilled. I was beat from being out on the water for 5 hours in the sun but luckily I had my big floppy hat on! I’ll do another update tonight after dinner. TGIF to all!
PS: Sending good thoughts to our friends and family on the East Coast as you all prepare for the crazy ice/snow storm. Wish we could send you some of this warmth. Stay safe!
