World Cruise – Regent Seven Seas Mariner – 154 Days – Acapulco, Mexico – Day 12 – Pics Part 1!

Wednesday Jan 21, 2026

Hi Gang! We finally touched land again today! YAY! Today we were docked in Acapulco, Mexico. Our first time there. To be honest, we were a little reluctant to get off the ship since the US State Dept has this area classified as a “Level 4: Do Not Travel”. Yikes! But we talked to Miguel, the Destination Services Manager we had dinner with the other night, and he said it would be safe. And he was right! (Probably because the military was standing guard at the pier and the police followed our tour group the whole time!).

Our excursion was called “Acapulco Highlights & Cliff Divers”. We started off with a drive to La Quebrada which is the most famous place where the Cliff Divers perform. The Cliff Divers are really the face of Acapulco and our great tour guide, Francisco, told us lots of info that was very interesting.

He said it all started with 6 teenagers, who used to be fisherman, coming to this spot many years ago to dive off the cliffs for money. Now, to be able to be a diver here, you have to be a relative of the original 6 divers. The divers start at 16 and it takes them 2 years to reach the top platform. They only allow so many divers so they have to wait for one to retire and most don’t retire until they are 40. But they have a union! Gotta love it!

After watching the divers, we toured Acapulco and stopped at several lookout locations for pictures and great views. After the tour we got back on the ship and had lunch. After lunch we just chilled for the afternoon and got some sun. We did sneak in a little afternoon tea time and listened to a few trivia questions. But no games today!

I’ll do another update later tonight. Happy Hump Day to all!
