Hi Folks! Another great sea day! Slept in, hit the gym, had a light breakfast and went to play one of the games with other passengers called “Skii-Ball”. You bounced a ball off of a small trampoline into a mat with different points. We won one Regent point we can cash in at the end for more swag!
We then played a game of Dutch shuffleboard, where you push these round wooden discs across a table top board to get them into slots for points. This was the Officers challenge game with the Captain and his officers playing against the guest and this time the officers won but we still earned a Regent point. YAY!
After that we had a nice lunch and then went to play another game and this one was Axe Throwing!! I kid you not! But it was just heavy plastic axes thrown at a bullseye board. But we won another Regent point!
Since we hadn’t gotten our sea day education in yet, we attended the talk called “Cruise Thru Panama Canal History” by Dr Sherry Hutt. She explained how it united the world from east to west. That Balboa couldn’t bring his ship across so he walked across Panama in 1513 and was the first to see the Pacific Ocean.
She described it as one of the most massive infrastructure projects in the world. The original plan was to build the canal across Nicaragua but it would have been too difficult. So the US used 45,000 workers to build it a toss Panama and the
1st ship went thru in 1914. In 1977 the US turned the canal over to Panama. We’ll go thru the old canal since our ship is small. But the new much larger canal built to handle the mega ships had the first ship sail thru in 2016.
After that we got ready for our “Block Party”! On every Regent voyage, during one of the first few nights, at 6 PM they ask everyone to come out in their hallway and meet all their neighbors. It is a fun event and a good way to connect with everyone. Our next door neighbors, John and Leslie, were very nice and believe it or not they’re from Charlotte and he’s an American Airlines pilot! What are the odds?!?
After that we strapped on our feed bags and had dinner in Prime 7, Regent’s Specialty Steak House restaurant. I would again say Regent has the best steakhouse at sea! So we cast off the diet and ate all the good stuff. I started with the Seared Scallops as my first appetizer and the Beefsteak Tomatoes and Pickled Onions as my second appetizer. For my main I had the Bone-In Ribeye cooked to perfection. I gave in and had dessert and got the Caramel Popcorn Sundae. It felt good to be bad! Lol
After dinner we went to the show with a guest entertainer named Nina Skyy. She is a singer who does a tribute show to Whitney Houston. I always wonder how singers will do when they try to match Whitney’s vocals but Nina knocked it out of the park! Such great music and she had us all singing along and tapping our feet!
We finished the night listening to the May and Jun Duo in the Horizons Lounge on Deck 6. We are in Cartagena, Columbia tomorrow and can’t wait. Our first official World Cruise port! Hope everyone had a great Tuesday!
