Crystal Serenity – 7 day Canada/New England Cruise – Portland, Maine – Day 5 – Final Pics!

Hi Again All! We had another great night on the Serenity. As we sailed away we got a great view of the Portland Head Light Lighthouse. Completed in 1791 it is the oldest lighthouse in Maine. The former lighthouse keeper’s house, right next to it, is a maritime museum within Fort Williams Park.

After we saw that, I went to the speaker who was Larry Nelson the pro golfer. His talk was “How Golf Has Changed Since the 70’s”. Unlike the other great golfers who started playing at a very young age, Larry didn’t start playing until the age of 20 in 1970.

He has been a member of three Ryder Cup teams, counting victory at the US Open and two PGA Championships among the 41 professional tournaments he won. In 2006, Larry was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame.

Some of the changes he discussed were the equipment changes, specifically the graphite shafts on the clubs that allow the bigger club heads. Also the enhanced golf balls that are available now and the fact that you have to play the same type ball the whole match. In the past, you could use a different type of ball for each hit.

But he felt the biggest change was that players are getting so much stronger. In the past, not many were over 6 feet tall. But now many are and some can now hit the ball 340 yards! It was a great talk!

After that we went to Waterside for dinner. For my two starters I had Escargot and Cream of Italian Mushroom Soup in the cutest little bread bowl! For my main I had the Seared Arctic Char. And for dessert I had the “Taco”, which was White Chocolate Cake with Dolce de Leche Whipped Ganache and Salted Caramel Ice Cream (and topped with Caramel Popcorn!). Everything was presented so well and was so yummy!

After dinner we went to the show in the Galaxy Lounge which was called “Club Nights”. It’s described as a journey of music and dance from a Country Music Club to a London Pub and more featuring the music of the English Rock Band, the Who. It was a great show with great music!

After the show we went to the Avenue Saloon to listen to Colin Salter play piano. We then called it a night since we lose an hour’s sleep to get on Canadian time. Tomorrow we’re in Saint John New Brunswick in Canada. Hope everyone had a great Saturday!
