Hi All! Guess what? We’re not in a new country today! We’re still in beautiful Spain. Specifically docked in Vigo, Spain. Vigo is a coastal city in northern Spain near the Portugal border. It’s known for its beautiful Atlantic coastline, delicious seafood and as a gateway to the stunning Cirs Islands. Part of Galicia National Park, these islands are famed for their pristine beaches and crystal clear waters, often compared to the Caribbean.
The Casco Bello (Old Town) is a charming area with narrow streets, historic buildings and the lively Mercado da Pedra (market). That’s where we spent most of our time today. Rather than do an excursion outside the city, since we’ve never been here, we decided to just explore Vigo. Great choice!
It’s very hilly but they conveniently have escalators to take you to the top of the city. Given all our walking on the Camino yesterday we gladly took the escalators! Up top was the Castle of San Sebastián with a beautiful crucifix and amazing views down on the city.
We saw the beautiful Cathedral of Santa Maria, the cool architecture of various buildings, and lots of outdoor seating with people eating octopus and mussels. That’s the specialty of the eateries here.
Near the central square, named Plaza del Sol, we saw the town emblem which sits on a pole high in the air. It’s called El Sireno and is actually a male mermaid! Kinda weird isn’t it?? Lol
After exploring Vigo we came back onboard and chilled in the late afternoon. We then got ready for dinner. I’ll do another update later tonight. Hope everyone’s having a great Sunday! Hate that we can’t watch all the NFL games today!
