Hi Again All! We had a very cool evening! We did an excursion that included a walk thru town and dinner at one of the oldest restaurants in Copenhagen. Then got back and watched a movie in the ships theater. Fun filled night!
On our walk we saw the fountain of the Norse Godess Gefjon. Legend has it that the Swedish king told Gefjon that he’d give her all the territory she could plow in a day. So she turned her four sons into oxen and plowed enough land to be the equivalent of the island of Zealand that Copenhagen now sits on. Wild!
We also saw the only Anglican Church in Copenhagen which was St Alban’s. We walked by the Marble Church, which has the largest church dome in Scandinavia and was patterned after St Peter’s Basilica in Rome. Lastly we got to see the changing of the guard at the Royal Palace.
But the highlight of the night was our meal at the oldest restaurant in Copenhagen named Nyhavns Faergekro. We had a traditional Danish dish called Frikadeller, which is pork meatballs. They served it with creamed fennel and potatoes. It was really tasty! They even gave us dessert of chocolate pie with ice cream. Yum Yum!
We then drove back to the pier and watched the movie “Bonhoeffer: Pastor, Spy, Assassin”. It was based on a true story of Dietrich Bonhoeffer who was swept into the epicenter of a deadly plot to assassinate Hitler. It was good but it jumped around a lot and got a little confusing!
After such a long day we crashed. Tomorrow we are in Copenhagen again and ready to further explore this great city! Hope everyone had a great Friday!
