The Baltics – Day 12 – Sea Day – Pics Part 1!

Tues April 22, 2025

Hi Gang! Yes, another glorious sea day filled with relaxation, education and great food. We started the day with a 9:45 AM talk on Copenhagen.

We learned there are 6 million people in all of Denmark and 2 million in metro Copenhagen. It’s the home of author Hans Christian Andersen. The current King is Frederick the 10th and his mother abdicated her throne to him in Jan 2024. It started as a Viking village in the 10th century. It’s the Capital of Denmark and it’s

home to Maersk, the world’s largest shipping company.

We then went to the speaker on “The Broken Branch: Congress’ Challenges”.  He discussed how Americans have lost confidence in the US House and Senate and thoughts on improving it. The speaker of course didn’t get political but some of the questions did! People are crazy!

We then gave our brains a break and went and had an enjoyable and relaxing lunch looking out over the water (inside though since it’s chilly today!).

After lunch we exercised our brains again by going to the speaker on the topic of “Espionage and Treachery during the Cold War”. Very interesting lecture talking about Cold War spies and double agents as well as the spy who saved the world (Oleg Penkovsky). He said the most likely reasons for people wanting to be spies were based on the acronym MICE – Money, Ideology, Coercion and Ego.

After that we did a Bridge tour which was really cool. I’ve included a bunch of pictures. Can you believe they let us drive the boat?? Lol.

After the bridge tour we went back to the room to get all gussied up since it’s formal night tonight. I’ll provide an update after dinner. Happy Tuesday to all!
