Hi Folks! Happy Easter to all! We’re docked in Hamburg, Germany today and will also be here tomorrow. We had initially had our excursion scheduled for 9 AM but then looked at the weather and it was going to be 41 degrees at 9! A little too chilly for us so we luckily got the last two open seats for the 1:30 PM tour when the temp will be 56 and rising. Still not warm but better than 41!!
So with the later tour we got to sleep in a little then went to Easter Sunday mass at 10 AM. It was a very nice service and started our day off right. We then had lunch and did our 3 hour tour which was called “Scenic Hamburg”.
It was a panoramic tour around all of Hamburg. We learned that Hamburg is Germany’s second largest metropolis and one of Europe’s largest ports. Did you know the Beatles started their career here in 1962? And that the American hamburger was invented in Hamburg… who knew??
We got to see the City Hall, Germany’s oldest Stock Exchange, St Michael’s Church (the largest North German Baroque church), the Elbphilharmonie (large concert hall), the Speicherstadt (world’s largest complex of warehouses), the Jungfernsteig (an elegant shopping area) as well as the bar the Beatles first played at. And lastly, the most frequented site, the Reeperbahn (the red light district). But I swear we were just window shopping! Lol
We wanted to also take the boat tour around the harbor but it was a little too chilly for that! After the tour we got back on board and got ready for dinner. We’re so excited to be having dinner at the Silver Note jazz club. It’s the piano player Andre’s birthday today so it should be a fun celebration! It’s also my son Danny’s birthday as well today so a big shout out to him! Happy Birthday Dan!!
