The Baltics – Day 9 – Sea Day – Pics Part 1!
Sat April 19, 2025
Hi All! We had another relaxing and educational day today. We did our normal sea day routine of sleeping in, skipping breakfast and heading straight to lunch. After lunch we started our marathon of enrichment speakers.
Our first one was titled “The German Empire and its Three Kaisers”. It was the story of Prussia’s last three kings who became emperors of Unified Germany from 1871-1918.
The second one was titled “Secret Intelligence Around the Baltics”. It was about how Polish mathematicians first cracked the Enigma cipher, how a Finnish ice skater (Sonja Henie) lent her name to a US intelligence operation and other secret intelligence around the Baltics during WWII.
The third one was the most fun and exciting since it was all about Antarctica, our favorite place on the planet! They mostly talked about all the Silversea cruises that went there but they showed tons of pictures of the penguins, whales, leopard seals and icebergs. We are ready to go back for our third trip there someday!
We then went to our cooking class at the Salt Lab. It was called Fika: Scandinavian Pastries and the Ritual of the Coffee Break. We made Swedish Cardamom Buns, Danish Terbikes Rolls and Spiced Scandinavian Coffee. So fun and tasty!
Whew… that was a busy afternoon! We then went back and got ready for dinner. I’ll do an update later. Hope everyone is having a great weekend!
