Hi All! Yes, the Wandering Italian and his co-pilot Kathy are off on another adventure! I’m sure the regulars that follow this travel blog thought we quit traveling!! Nope, just focused on family for a few months.
You all know how we love to travel but family comes first and I got to spend lots of time with my kids and grandkids. And we had some fun family times. My littlest grand turned one recently (and yes, I convinced his mom to let him do a “smash cake” like his other two brothers did). Oh it was such fun and quite the mess!
And then all three of my grands were baptized on the same day. That happened the same weekend of the one year party so we were quite busy!
As to our latest adventure, we are doing an 18 night cruise on Silversea’s Silver Dawn ship to the Baltics region. We were on her in Dec of ‘23 so we know it will be nice. We go to 8 countries in 18 days! Gotta love cruising and how easy it is to pop in and out of countries. We’ll visit England, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Denmark, Finland, Estonia and Sweden! And yes, we may even be able to use that line that says “I can see Russia from my window”! Lol.
The other cool part of this cruise is we’ll be a segment on their World Cruise similar to what we did on the Regent Mariner earlier this year. Talking to all those people who are in the middle of their world cruise will get us all fired up for our world cruise next year!
We flew to London Heathrow (LHR) on Thurs April 10th and arrived on Fri 4/11. We started out in a coach seat but then one of the flight attendants who had worked with Kathy before got us moved up to premium economy. As I always say, it pays to hang with a flight attendant!
We then traveled down to our port city of Southampton about 2 hours south of London. Once we got settled into our hotel, we walked around town and grabbed dinner. Southampton is a really nice town with lots of history. We walked past this cool old medieval castle type place called Bar Gate which in essence was the gateway into the city. I included some pics!
After that we headed to the hotel to crash and get a good night’s sleep. Tomorrow we board the ship! YAY! Can’t wait!! Hope all are well!
