Hi Folks! Today we were docked in Amber Cove. Amber Cove is located on the Dominican Republic’s north coast, near Puerto Plata. As a private cruise port destination, Amber Cove is exclusively accessible to cruise passengers.
Due to some of the sketchy things we had read about the Dominican Republic we decided to just hang out in the area right at the dock rather than do an excursion. There were tons of restaurants, shops, bars and pools within walking area of the ship. Wait, did I say shops?? I’m looking at you grandkids! Lol
One of the things I thought was really cool was they had several huge pools with long water slides that were all free to use. What a nice benefit of docking here. But then again, do you go hang out with thousands of people at these pools or just hang on the ship with the empty pools due to everyone being off the ship! Lol
We were docked next to the Carnival Mardi Gras cruise ship. While that ship has up to 6,000 passengers and looked pretty big when it was right next to us, you realize how big it really is when you see the back of that ship. It is wide! I included a pic!
After being in Amber Cove we got back onboard and had another tasty lunch. In the afternoon we chilled on our balcony. In the late afternoon, we went to get educated. They had a session on how to use e-SIM cards in your phone for roaming calls while traveling the world. They had some great tips and of course that’s right up our alley!
After that we got ready for dinner. I’ll send another update later tonight. Happy Hump Day to all!
