Miami to Rio – Test Drive for the World Cruise – Day 12 – Recife, Brazil – Final Pics!

Sun Jan 19, 2025

Hi Gang! We were docked today in Recife, Brazil. Recife is Brazil’s 4th largest city with a population of 1.6 million. The city was founded in 1537 during the early Portuguese colonization of Brazil. Recife has been called the “Venice of Brazil” because of all the waterways and more than 50 bridges.

We had an 8 hour tour today and it was hot and muggy so we were exhausted at the end of the day. Our tour started at this cool town on the hill called Olinda. It looked down over Recife with great views. We visited a Jesuit Cathedral built in 1534. It was really pretty on the inside.

We then went to the St Antonio convent built in 1692. While driving there we passed the Old Jewish street where the 1st synagogue of the Americas was built in 1654.

After that we went to lunch at a Churrascaria, which is a Brazilian BBQ restaurant, where they keep coming non stop with meats and sausages and salads and… Yep, it was a ton of food but it was all so good! Of course after that we decided we weren’t going to eat dinner!

Our final stop was to this huge museum consisting of three different buildings and lots of outdoor sculptures called the Ricardo Brennand Institute. For sculptures they had Michelangelo’s David and Rodin’s The Thinker. We also saw this huge animal outside called a Capybara. It’s a giant rodent native to South America and boy was it giant!

Like I said, when we got back we were exhausted so we just showered and settled in to watch NFL football! But none of the teams I wanted to win are winning! The Lions, Rams, and Texans all lost! Hoping the Bills can pull off a win! Hope everyone had a great weekend!
