Rome to Barcelona – Third Time’s a Charm – Day 7 – Valletta, Malta – Pics Part 1!

Sun Nov 17, 2024

Hi Folks! We were lucky enough to get another day in Malta. What a glorious place. Can’t wait to come back!

We had an early excursion today. Our tour was called Valletta’s Hidden Gems and it sure has a lot of them! We took the bus into the town of Valletta. Walked to the Upper Barracca Gardens to see a beautiful view of the Grand Harbor and the three cities we toured yesterday.

Next we walked to St Paul’s Shipwreck Church but were not able to go in due to them having mass today on Sunday. Legend has it that St Paul’s boat was shipwrecked here and so he stayed for several months and healed many sick children. Because of that they built the church in his honor.

We then toured the Manoel Theater said to be the oldest theater in Europe still operating in its original location. It was built in 1731 by the Order of St. John. It took only 10 months to build and has a capacity of 540 people. It has a 22-carat gilded ceiling. Would love to see a play here!

We then had free time on our own to walk around this amazing city. We walked into the Co-Cathedral of St John to see how ornate and beautiful it was. WOW! Saw lots of other churches and buildings. And we even got a cronut (half croissant/half donut) and it was so yummy!

Again I’ll let the pictures do the talking. We have a cooking class on board this afternoon. That should be fun! Happy Sunday to all!
