Hi All! Today we are docked in Naples, Italy! Birthplace of my grandfather on my Dad’s side. One of these times when we’re in Naples, I’m going to go look up the family and see who’s still around. If they’re like me though they’re probably off wandering around the world! Lol.
Today, like the last time we were in Naples, started out as a rainy, dreary day. But luckily, our excursion was in the afternoon and by then the rain had stopped! Due to the dreariness and having an afternoon excursion, we slept in and caught up on all our sleep we missed on the flight over!
We had lunch in the Asian restaurant called Kaiseki. For dinner there is an extra charge to eat there but for lunch it’s free so we decided to try it out. It was delicious! We tried the Tonkotsu Ramen bowl which had pork, bok choy, a hard boiled egg, seaweed and lots of noodles and was so yummy! And their steamed Bao Buns were to die for. We’ll eat here again for sure!
After lunch we did our excursion which was a panoramic tour of Naples. We saw the 13th century Castle Nuovo, which was the residence for the kings of Anjou, Aragon and the Spanish Viceroys. We drove past the Piazza Garibaldi and Piazza Della Borsa. We saw Piazza Plebiscito, the largest square in Naples which houses the 17th century Royal Palace, the San Carlo Opera House and the Church of St Francis. We drove by Spacanopoli street which is where pizza was invented. And lastly we got to see Mount Vesuvius which towers 4,300 feet above Naples and last erupted in 1944. Luckily not today!
We then drove up to Posillipo Hill for views over the city. After that we stopped at a Neapolitan Deli for gelato. Yummy! On the way back to the pier we drove past the Mergellina and the Castle of the Egg in Santa Lucia. Though cloudy it was a great tour!
After that we came back onboard and relaxed with some popcorn for an afternoon snack. I forgot to mention that Silversea assigns a personal butler to all suites. (Well, Lah-Tee-Dah!). Ours is named Janaka and he’s from Sri Lanka. Before we left for our excursion we asked him for popcorn when we return and he delivered it right on time. We are SPOILED!
That’s all for now. Happy Hump Day!
