Athens to Barcelona – Aegean Antiquities & Chic Shores – Day 17 – Istanbul, Turkey – Pics Part 1!

Sun Oct 13, 2024

Hi All! We are back in Istanbul, Turkey and we’ll be here for three days! Got lots to see and do. Didn’t get here until 2:30 PM so we slept in and had a nice relaxing lunch. Based on our previous visit, it’s a wee bit chillier today with a high of only 68 but feels great walking around.

Kathy and I decided to do two different excursions. That’s the beauty of cruising, each person can do what they’d like. Kathy really wanted to sail along the Bosphorus and the Golden Horn and I wanted to see the Zyrek and Chora Mosques. Win-win for both of us!

I’ll let the pictures do the talking. This first set of pics is throughout my tour. The next set are all mosaics in the Chora Mosque. It used to be a Christian church and that’s why all the mosaics are of Jesus, Mary and the Apostles. They say this is one of the top sites in the world for mosaics. It was beautiful!

After both our tours we boarded the ship and since it was late we just ordered room service and went to listen to Mark play piano. Tomorrow we have an early tour of Istanbul. Hope everyone had a great weekend!

PS: Interesting thing we heard today… the Greek Orthodox believe that Joseph was married before he met Mary and had two sons but his first wife died. Never heard that before!
