Voyage of the Vikings – Day 24 – Boston to Charlotte – Final Trip Update!

Sat July 20, 2024

Hi Folks! WOW! That’s all I can say. We had an amazing trip. Got to celebrate Kathy’s birthday, my birthday, Sue & Stuart’s 50th wedding anniversary, visited Iceland and Greenland for the first time, saw St Anthony, Newfoundland and St John’s, New Brunswick for the first time, and got to go back to our beloved Bar Harbor again. Folks, it doesn’t get much better than that!

Well I guess I shouldn’t say that because we leave again in about a week on a 14 night cruise on Regent Seven Seas newest and most luxurious ship called the Grandeur. I hear the ship is just over the top. We travel to Italy, Greece, Croatia, Montenegro, and Turkey stopping at several ports we’ve never been to, and for me, two new countries Greece and Turkey to cross off my bucket list. So who knows, maybe that will be the best trip ever?? Gotta feed the Wanderlust!

Before we leave for that, I’ll have all of my kids and grandkids together this week to celebrate belated birthdays for Kathy, my son-in-law and myself. We are truly blessed!

And speaking of blessed, we got very lucky today and got seats on the first standby flight back home from Boston to Charlotte. You may have heard about the Crowdstrike and Microsoft issues that cancelled many airline flights the last few days. Anytime something like that happens, it causes a domino effect to get people rebooked on other flights and usually leaves us standby travelers scrambling to find any flight home. Our flight was almost two hours late and initially showed no open seats but we waited it out to see if there might be no shows or people needing to change flights. Initially it looked like only one seat was free so Kathy being the amazing person she is took the jump seat (only flight attendants can sit there and it ain’t comfortable) and gave me the last open seat (again how blessed am I?). But luckily a few seats came open and we got to sit together and have our own row. I always say, my Mom, Dad and Brother Jim are my Guardian Angels always watching over me. Thanks guys!

Watch for my update in about a week for our next adventure and thanks as always for riding along with us. Take care all!

PS: The only picture I have is us sailing in to Boston early this morning. So beautiful!
