Voyage of the Vikings – Day 19 – At Sea – Final Pics!

Mon July 15, 2024

Hi All! Today is our last sea day! The rest of the days, 4 in a row, are all port days. So we made the most of it by sleeping in! But it was actually a packed filled day (for a sea day).

We started off with lunch (always a good choice)! Then after lunch we went to the talk that the violinist, David Klinkenberg, gave on new research into the legendary Da Vinci code. He wrote a book on it and is working with Paramount on a film. It was interesting how he tied in the water behind both sides of the Mona Lisa’s head and how it portrayed knowledge coming down from the mountains into the valley… as you can see, it got too deep for me! Lol

After that we went to a talk called “New England Up Close – Gone Fishing” all about how tied to the fishing community this area is. He mentioned that New Bedford, Mass produces the most expensive volume of seafood in the world. They also talked about the top 3 fish from the area which were Lobster, Cod and what they call Trash fish which are fish like monk fish. They said the largest lobster has grown to 40 pounds! I think I ate that one on a recent cruise!

We then watched part of the Disneynature documentary called “Wings of Life” which examined bats, butterflies, hummingbirds, bumblebees and flowers and their vital role in maintaining the ecosystem balance. It’s amazing to understand how important these various creatures are to us!

We left the movie a little early to play trivia. We had are regular team of six of us back and we did really well. We got 14 and the winner got 16 so we came close. One of these days we’re going to win!

After trivia we went to the port talk on Charlottetown on Prince Edward Island (PEI). Of course they’re known for their mussels but it was funny to hear some of the other interesting foods they have. One is called Poutine which is French fries with cheese curds and gravy on them. Sounds nasty to me but we’ve never tried them. The other sounded unhealthy but tasty called the Beaver Tail. It’s a fried dough pastry shaped into a beaver’s tail with toppings like whipped cream, crumbled Oreos, cinnamon sugar and chocolate. I might need to get one of those!

We then got ready for dinner and had another great meal. We both got the Chili Shrimp Cocktail for our first starter and Kathy got her FOS and I got the Captain’s Antipasto Plate for our second appetizer. For our mains Kathy got the Pork Tenderloin and I got the Pot Roast. For dessert Kathy got the hot fudge sundae and I got the tiramisu cake. As always, everything was really tasty. But I forgot to take pics of my appetizers (I was hungry!).

After dinner we caught the show of the three male singers named Pantheon and their show called “Grand Tour”. They can really harmonize well.

After the show we did our favorite routine of listening to the piano player and Kathy pulling some slots. As we say, “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”!

Tomorrow we are in Charlottetown, PEI. Can’t wait! Hope everyone had a great Monday!
