Hi Gang! We made it to Wales! And I think that good luck from hugging St James is wearing off! We had a little rain today, but what do we expect, we’re in the UK! And this is day 19 of our trip and it’s the first drop of rain we’ve had. So we’ve been pretty luck. But I think these next few days we’ll be getting more rain. St James, don’t forget about us!!
We docked in Holyhead in the country of Wales which is part of the United Kingdom. Holyhead is in the Northwest corner of Wales on an island that is connected to the island of Anglesey via bridge which is connected to mainland Wales via bridge.
We took a great all day tour today with 6 other people who were all from our ship but we had all found this tour on our own. It was called Busy Bus Tours (love the name!) and we had a great tour guide named Shelley.
We saw lots of castles, sheep and green meadows (sounds like Ireland!). We started off at the town of Conwy which had a really cool castle and also the smallest house in Great Britain. We then went to Betwsycoed (yes the names are crazy!) where they had a cool old church. Then we drove thru the Snowdonia National Park and saw some pretty views. Then on to the town of Caernarfron with another cool castle.
Our final stop was at a train station at a small town that has the second longest name in the world! (The longest is in New Zealand). The name is Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogogoch. Try saying that three times fast! We took a picture in front of the train station so everyone would believe us!
Fun facts the driver shared… Wales is home to approx 9 million sheep (but only 3 million people!). Statistically, 1 in 2,000 sheep are black and we saw a few (so cute!).
