Canary Islands, Morocco and Northern Europe cruise on Seabourn Ovation – Day 6 – Santa Cruz, Tenerife Island – Part 1!

Tues April 30, 2024

Hi All! We made it to our second of five Canary Island hops. Today we docked in Santa Cruz on the island of Tenerife. We planned an all day tour but Kathy was not feeling great so she stayed back to rest and recuperate and I ventured off. She’s feeling much better by the late afternoon (maybe because I wasn’t around all day??). Lol

The tour started out with a long drive up to the peak of Tiede National Park which tops out at over 12,000 feet high. It is the tallest in all of Spain. We did stop once along the way at the lookout point called Mirador de Ortuno. The whole national park reminded me of Timanfaya from yesterday with lots of lunar like surfaces and tons of volcanic rock formations. They actually filmed Power of the Ring from the Lord of the Rings series here.

After that we drove to a seaside town named Puerto de La Cruz and had lunch. It’s very pretty there but the beaches are very rocky. Not good for tender feet!

We than stopped at the Botanical Garden that has been there since 1788. It had some beautiful plants and these huge palm trees. Very relaxing!

We then drove back to the cruise ship. That’s all for now. I’ll post these pics and a special group of all plants from the Botanical Garden. More to come after dinner tonight. Happy Tuesday all!
