Hi Again Folks! We had a really nice evening. This ship used to have a specialty restaurant named The Grill by Thomas Keller (named after the famed chef that runs The French Laundry restaurant) but they recently changed it to a Mediterranean themed restaurant named Solis. This menu is way more complex with lots more choices but we’re still not sure it’s better than Thomas Keller. We’re eating here at least two more times so we’ll see.
Don’t get me wrong, the food was really really good but as they say “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”! But we’ll have fun eating here and comparing it. Plus it was formal night tonight so we got all gussied up!
We both had the lobster ravioli (of course!) for a starter and it was topped and stuffed with tons of lobster. We both loved it! We shared a ribeye (delicious!) and the Veal Osso Buco (fall off the bone and melt in your mouth!). The desserts were just OK (Thomas Keller had a 14 layer chocolate cake that was to die for!) so Kathy got the ice cream sundae and I got the Tiramisu made table-side. The Tiramisu tasted good but didn’t look good on the plate!
We then went to the show which was a singer named Ricardo Afonso from Portugal who was really good. He played Judas in Jesus Christ Super Star on London’s West End. He also told some great stories about his life. We really liked him. After that we ended our evening as we usually do listening to Ana and Humberto playing smooth jazz in the Observation Lounge.
Hope everyone had a great weekend! Tomorrow we’re on to our first Canary Island landing at the port of Arricefe on the island of Lanzarote. We’re renting a car for the day to tour around the island. Wish us luck!
