Hi All! We made it back safely to Charlotte Friday night. We were able to get a whole row on the plane so it was a comfortable flight.
Friday morning getting off the ship took a little extra time and there was some confusion with getting the shuttle to the port but it all worked out. Since we got off the ship at 8:45 AM and our flight was not until 4:45 PM we decided to hire a driver to take us to several places and drop us off at the airport.
Our first stop was St Nicholas Abbey. This was an old plantation house that was purchased a few years back and restored. They also added a steam engine train for a ride up to the top of Cherry Tree Hill, the tallest point on the island. That was a really nice ride and when we stopped half way, the train crew offered to take pictures of us in the front engine car. We even got to blow the whistle! Lol
We then toured the house (it was never really an abbey) and hear how they lived back then. We also toured the rum distillery and watched them chop up the sugar cane to get the juices for the rum.
After that we went to a beautiful and tranquil place called Hunte’s Garden. This was a huge property bought by a man (Mr Hunte) and he established this amazing garden there with lots of plants and tall trees. He also had sitting areas all thru the gardens and classical music piped in throughout so you could really get your zen on! We felt we needed it to prepare us for coming back to the cold temps! Lol.
After that, Caleb our driver, dropped us off at the airport. And as I mentioned we had an uneventful and smooth flight home.
Well this is the last update for this trip. I’d sum it up in one word… WOW! Wow for this amazingly beautiful ship, wow for the delicious food, wow for the friendliest crew at sea, wow for the lightning fast wifi on the ship, wow for the cool new ports we got to visit, and wow for the engineering marvel of the Panama Canal.
But the biggest wow is yet to come. In less than two weeks we leave for the wow trip of our lives. We’ll be exploring the White Continent, the seventh continent, the final continent in the world the Wandering Italian has not set foot on yet… ANTARCTICA! Can’t wait!! Thanks for traveling along with us!
