Hi Gang! Well today we were in St Maarten. This island is half Dutch (the Philipsburg side) and half French (the Marigot side) so you really feel like you’re in Europe but with the nice, warm Caribbean weather!
We took an excursion in the morning that went to both sides of the island. We drove in a Jeep 4×4 with another couple and the husband said he was glad to drive the whole time (and we were glad to be chauffeured around!). There were 6 jeeps in our “convoy” and we all had a walkie-talkie so we could hear narration of the island from the tour guide.
After cruising around the Dutch side, we stopped at Maho beach which is famous for the planes flying right over the beach where you feel you can almost touch the bottom of the plane. The other crazy thing people like to do when the big 747’s take off is to hang on to the fence next to the runway and feel the plane’s exhaust and almost fly off the fence. We didn’t see any big jets take off but that would be crazy! You Tube it!
Then after driving thru the French side we stopped at Orient beach where we got some rum punch and hung out at the beach. One interesting section of Orient beach is that it’s a nude beach! So of course we… NOT!! Lol. But it is fun to peak! Those crazy French!
After our excursion we tried the pizza place on the ship for lunch. Their pizza was excellent and probably the best we’ve had on a cruise ship.
In the afternoon we skipped trivia and got some laundry done and just chilled. Miss the unlimited laundry on Regent where they do it for you!
For dinner we went to the Alantide restaurant, which was where we went the first night. The food was really good but it took way too long for them to serve our main entree. The people sitting next to us got so frustrated they got up and left. As they say, First World Problems!
After dinner we went to the show which was called Casino. They started out singing Elvis and Frank Sinatra songs, then the rest were all James Bond theme songs. It was actually pretty good!
After the show we pulled some slots and hit the disco again. They play the best music there!
Tomorrow it’s on to Antigua/Barbuda! Hope everyone has a great weekend!
