Hi All! We were in San Juan today and had a fun excursion in the morning. We first had a bus tour thru both old and new San Juan. Even though we’ve been here several times we never realized Old San Juan is actually an island off the coast of Puerto Rico connected via a bridge. We just thought it was on the mainland.
After the bus tour we took a walking tour around one of the forts called Castillo San Cristobal. After that we had free time to walk around the city.
In the afternoon, we did a free cooking class thru their S.A.L.T. program, which stands for Sea and Land Taste. It is their commitment to travel thru taste where they source locally, cook authentically and share the recipes. Our class today was called “The Genius of Jerk” and we made a Jerk steak sandwich with Jerk rub, Caribbean slaw, and jerk marinated veggie kabobs. A neat trick they taught us was to use the stem of rosemary as the skewer… brilliant and yummy!
After the cooking class we played trivia again and actually did a lot better. We didn’t win but were in the running. Maybe by tomorrow we can win!
For dinner we tried a new restaurant called The Grill. They describe it as “The Grill features lava stone cooking at its finest. Sourced from volcanic rock and placed in an oven to reach an optimum temperature of 400˚C, (754 F!) The Grill invites guests to cook their food directly at their table. They also give you an apron so the grease doesn’t splatter on your clothes! It was really fun and the food was delicious (Hail to the Cook!). We really got our cooking in today!
After dinner we went to the show which was all Motown music. Love that old music and we really enjoyed the show.
After the show we pulled a few slots and headed to the Panorama lounge to listen to some disco music! Woo Hoo! Tomorrow we’re on to St Maarten!
