Hi Gang! We had an amazing day in Sorrento today! It’s a cool town along the coast south of Rome looking across the Bay of Naples towards both Mt Vesuvius and the city of Naples. It is perched on the cliffs looking like it could slide into the ocean! It’s sort of the unofficial start of the Amalfi Coast. The beautiful island of Capri with its famous blue grotto is just across the water as well as the ruins of Pompeii are not too far away. We’ve both done those before so we just took our time enjoying Sorrento.
We had perfect weather today. Sunny and 72! We did a walking tour that started at 8:30 that took us all around Sorrento and discussed all the history. Loved all the old style architecture and cobblestone streets as well as no cars in the central shopping area. As part of the tour they gave us tickets to a coffee shop for ice cream and drinks which was a nice touch. So after the tour we just walked the streets shopping for the grands (and maybe a leather purse or two for Kathy!).
We got back on the boat in the late afternoon and went to the afternoon tea (they have it at 4 PM, which is later than most other cruise lines). Along with a nice assortment of desserts they also had some fun little sandwiches. But a nice classy touch was the all female string quartet they had playing.
After the afternoon tea we went to play trivia. We teamed with these two nice couples, who were traveling together, one from Minnesota and one from Wyoming. The trivia questions were really hard! We got 8 out of 15 which was not too bad. It’s funny, the ones from Minnesota knew Adam Thielen who used to play for the Minnesota Vikings and now plays for the Panthers. Their son went to high school with him!
After that we got ready and went to dinner. We had another nice meal and went to the show. It was called “Good Lovin” and was a medley of 1960’s songs. It was so good! All in all another great day. Happy Hump Day all!
