Hi Gang! I had another OMG moment today! I woke up to a day with the fog so thick you couldn’t see your hand in front of you. Then about 10 AM, the fog lifted and this amazing, beautiful National park appeared like magic. OMG!!
Glacier Bay National Park has to be one of the most beautiful parks but it is also one of the most remote. You can only get to it via cruise ship, only two cruise ships are allowed in per day and the leg we sailed into to see the Johns Hopkins glacier only allows ships in during the month of September. Couple all that with a clear blue sky with very few clouds and you realize how blessed we all were to see this majestic place.
It has over a thousand glaciers in it but many are up in the high mountains and can’t be seen. We saw the six major tidewater glaciers that end at the sea and they were all breathtaking. It was chilly out on the deck watching all the scenery so Holland America had a nice touch where they handed out hot split pea and ham soup on the deck. Mmm… mmm good!
We also had park rangers board the ship and narrate as we sailed thru the park. They would tell us when there was marine life in the water and they pointed out whales, sea otters, and sea lions. So cool!
I’ll stop writing and let the amazing pictures speak for themselves. Hope all are well!
