Arctic Circle Expedition – Day 8 – Tromso!

Friday Aug 11, 2023

Hi all! We had another day of gorgeous weather and really enjoyed the port of Tromso. It’s called the Gateway to the Arctic since many expedition cruises leave from here. We were very busy today. We did three excursions!

The first was to the Polaria Museum to see the seals and then to the Tromso Wilderness Center to see the huskies that run the 1,140 mile dog sled race. The seals were so fun and played in the water and loved being fed. The huskies were adorable. They had recently had a litter of 7 and we got to hold them and cuddle them. Too cute!

Our second excursion was to the Arctic Cathedral and the Tromso Cable car. The cathedral was built in 1965 and it’s called the “Opera House” of Norway since it resembles the Sydney Opera House. After that we took the cable car up to the top of Mount Storsteinen at 1,525 feet above sea level. The panoramic views of Tromso were amazing especially given what a clear day it was.

We then came back and had an early dinner and then everyone went to the free cultural immersion concert at the Arctic Cathedral. They had a nice selection from the Norwegian classical canon, folk songs and liturgical music during this exclusive recital just for us!

After the concert, we finished off our evening listening to Chase on the piano as always. It’s a sea day tomorrow so we plan to have another chill day! TGIF to all!
