Alaska – Day 9 – Final Day – Anchorage to Home!

Wednesday July 19, 2023

Hi Gang! It’s very sad writing this final entry. This was such an amazing trip and I hate leaving the beauty of Alaska behind. It truly is breathtaking! Especially when you have the good luck we had with the weather. Alaska can normally be rainy and overcast but we pretty much had bright and sunny every day.

Speaking of luck again, which I did every blog entry, I’m going to finish this trip write up with a series of good and bad luck things that happened in the 26 hours we were up for the last two days of travel (minus a few hours sleep in the plane).

We docked in Seward at 6 AM and started the day with rainy foggy weather (bad luck!).

We got off the ship with no problem, had a nice bus ride up to the Anchorage airport and the rain had stopped and the clouds had lifted (good luck!).

We dropped our luggage off at the airport luggage storage place and grabbed a bus to downtown Anchorage and found out that on Wed the bus is free for 60+ so we saved $10 (good luck!).

We got there early and the tour we booked wasn’t until 4 PM and the rain was supposed to start around 4 so we were able to get in the 2:00 tour and we had no rain (good luck!).

On the bus ride back to the airport, someone rear ended our bus and caused us a delay of about 30 mins (bad luck!).

When we checked our bags at the airport they allowed us to check our bags all the way to Charlotte even though the first leg to Chicago we got with miles and the second leg we flew standby. Also, the nice woman who allowed us to do that had her birthday on July 19th just like me (double good luck – and unreal!).

We were able to get on our standby flight to Charlotte with no problem (good luck!).

That’s it! A long day of travel with both good and bad luck sprinkled in.

But the biggest luck of all is coming up in almost exactly two weeks when we are lucky enough to leave for another cruise! If you loved the scenery of Alaska you will love this next trip. We will be going on our first ever “Expedition Cruise” where you get off the ship on to small RIB/Zodiac type boats to explore on land. This one is with Atlas Ocean Voyages for 13 nights on the World Traveller ship that only holds 196 passengers! And it goes to the Arctic Circle to an archipelago named Svalbard that pretty much only has polar bears and reindeer on it! Should be an adventure!!

Here is a link to that trip. We are so excited! Thanks for following along with us!
