Alaska – Day 3 – Inside Passage – Pics Part 1!

Thursday July 13, 2023

Hi All! Well today started off a bit rocky but had a nice, unexpected windfall (emphasis on fall!). So I got up early since we’re 3 hours behind the east coast and Kathy slept in since it was a sea day and we were just going to chill and explore the ship.

So I actually planned to hit the treadmill but it was pretty sunny and nice out so I decided I’d get my steps in walking around the promenade deck and take in all the Inside Passage beauty. Well 5 minutes into my walk I hit a wet patch of the deck and went flying head (and knee!) first to the ground. Ouch!! I actually thought I may have broken something so I just laid there on the deck floor waiting for the pain to subside (which it wasn’t). I was in the back part of the ship not really near anything major so no one came along for like 20 minutes. Not sure what I would have done had I really been hurt bad! The pain finally subsided and I was able to get up and walk back to our room. That’s why I don’t exercise! Lol

After showering and popping some Advil (it’s a b*tch getting old!) we set off to hear the speaker talk about Alaska. It is such an interesting state and has so much unique history to it. Did you know that Alaska is

2.5 times the size of Texas but has only 733,000 people in the whole state! It’s mostly made up of men who came her to work the oil fields, the mines, be lumberjacks, etc. The saying goes if you’re a woman and want to meet a man, the odds are good but the goods are odd! Lol.

Since Alaska wanted more women to come there, they passed legislation to allow women to vote in 1913 which was 7 years before woman could vote in the US in 1920. The

Iditarod race was created to determine the fastest way to get the Diptheria vaccine to Nome during the plague. The speaker shared so many cool facts about Alaska that helps put the trip in perspective!

And now is when the wind”fall” came in. After the talk they pulled tickets for a raffle and we won $250!! So today I had a bad fall and a good “windfall”! And since this ship is an all inclusive and you hardly have to pay for anything, I should use it to get a massage to work out these achy joints! But I’d rather actually use it to go on a fun excursion that is not free like a float plane ride or helicopter tour but we’ll see. It was just fun to win something!

We then tried out the specialty French restaurant Chartreuse for lunch. It was really good. I tried the octopus with squid ink! I know it sounds weird but it was really yummy!

After lunch we went to see this movie of a mama bear raising her two baby cubs in Alaska over their first two years. It was so heart warming and they provided popcorn and drinks so it was even more fun! We then went to afternoon tea which had all these little cheesecake goodies. Deadly!

Afterwards we got ready and headed to dinner and both had to get our lobster fix… we may turn into lobsters! After dinner we went to the show which was another good one. It was called Divos and Divas with music from the iconic singers like Barbara Streisand, Tony Bennet, Aretha Franklin, etc.  Such great music!

We ended the evening as we like to, listening to our new favorite piano player Nano from Chile and pulling some slots (Kathy won $96!).

Tomorrow we have our first port of Ketchikan, the rain capital of the US, but they promise us it won’t rain! YAY! Hope everyone had a great day!
