Hi Folks! We made it to Vancouver but it was a long day of travel! As some of you regulars know, Kathy is a flight attendant for American Airlines so we normally fly standby everywhere we go (which means FREE!). But if any of you have flown this summer, you know how crazy the flights have been not to mention all the cancellations (Yes, we’re looking at you United Airlines in Denver!) so we decided to get a guaranteed seat. We used miles from our credit card for the flight out which we were surprised it was only 12,500 miles. Not too bad!
We had to connect thru JFK and switch terminals which was really funny. We’ve never had to do that before and we were also switching airlines since we flew to JFK on American and we flew to Vancouver on Jet Blue. So this person had to personally walk us downstairs to board a bus to cross the runway to get to the other terminal. It was kind of strange but it was like getting personal service like we were Rock Stars or something! Lol.
I have to say I was really impressed with Jet Blue! Since we are elite status on American, Jet Blue upgraded our seats which was really nice given it was a 6 hour flight! We each got a whole exit row with length of legroom and the ability to lay down and sleep! Their technology is top notch and they offer free wifi for the whole trip. But the biggest shout out goes to the fact that they give out Cheez-its for their snacks! Gotta love it!
After we landed in Vancouver we grabbed a taxi to our hotel. That’s where it got interesting! If you’ve ever been to Vancouver, you’ll know the hotel prices downtown are outlandish, some as high as $700 per night! So I found a steal and when I told Kathy about it she almost refused to stay there! Since it was at the YWCA!! Lol.
But don’t think a homeless shelter with a gym! It’s actually one of the highest rated hotels in Vancouver (Google it!) and it ended up being really nice. And it’s only a 5 min taxi ride to the cruise port.
Well that’s all for today. Tomorrow we board the ship! Hope everyone had a great day!
