Hi Folks! TGIF! Oh heck, what am I saying, when you’re on vacation, every day is Saturday! And I can’t believe we’ve been gone a week. The time has flown by!
So today we were in Sydney, Nova Scotia, which is on Cape Breton Island. Did you know Nova Scotia stands for “New Scotland”? Years ago, the British convinced a large segment of the Scottish population to move here and it’s still almost 60% Scottish people still here today.
We did two excursions today and both were really good. We think we figured out why the two excursions the last two days weren’t great. Both those days we had to change ports at the last minute and they had to put together the excursions with less than 24 hours notice. And we just don’t think they had the time to organize good ones since all the other tours have been great.
The morning tour we did a walk around the pretty little town of Sydney with a tour guide dressed in the period garb. There is so much history here and we went to several different old houses and heard the stories of the families and in each house was also someone dressed in the period dress and they told all the stories. It was like a walking museum. One interesting thing is they built the world’s largest fiddle and have it on display on the marina where we docked.
Our second tour was a bus drive thru the beautiful island of Cape Breton to another walking history museum called Highland Village. There too people dressed in period garb and told stories of what life was like back then from a small mound of a home in the 1770’s to a church from the 1850’s to a school house in the 1920’s. But the most amazing part was the setting on a cliff looking out over the water. It was so beautiful! The weather was just beautiful and we really wanted to just stay there.
We got back just in time when the ship was leaving. So we got ready for dinner and did our normal evening routine. The show was a funny comedian, the piano player played all Beatles tunes and the slot machines once again did not pay well! Lol.
Tomorrow we’re on to Halifax, Nova Scotia. Hope everyone has a great weekend!
