Well we made it to Montreal but luckily we opted not to fly standby this time since the flight was oversold! As some of you know, Kathy is a flight attendant for American Airlines so we normally fly standby and other than the summer months it’s rarely a problem (even though we’ve had our moments!). But it was nice to have a guaranteed seat and not worry about getting called up for standby. We used miles so it was still free but I was surprised at how low the miles were for the ticket but it was only a one way ticket. We’ll fly standby coming back from NYC since there are 3 airports to choose from and tons of flights so it shouldn’t be a problem. But guess what? We got lucky and got upgraded to Business class! I had read where American had just changed their award miles process to give free upgrades where possible. I guess it finally paid off to spend all that money on my American Airlines credit card!! Lol.
But now comes the bad news (well, not too bad) but our flight got delayed. It was supposed to leave at 8:15 PM but at first they said there was a maintenance delay but then they said they got us a new plane but it was delayed coming in. We ended up leaving at 9:25 PM and got in to Montreal at 11:25 PM. We had a wait a little for customs and our bags but we grabbed the free hotel shuttle and got there a little after midnight. We’re actually taking a shuttle back to the airport tomorrow morning since Montreal has an interesting taxi fare setup where it’s a set fare from the airport to downtown that’s a lot cheaper than us getting a taxi from our hotel. Oh well, at least the shuttle is free!
