Southern Caribbean Cruise – Day 8 – San Juan, Puerto Rico – 4/6/23!

Hi Folks! Today was our last port day. The next two days are sea days and then Sunday we arrive in Miami. Seems like this cruise just flew by!

Today we were in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Since this is a US Territory, we had to go thru Customs and Border Control when we got off the ship to do our excursion. But it went very fast and it will mean we won’t have to do it when we arrive in Miami.

For our excursion today we booked a walking tour of Old San Juan. We loved all the colorful buildings. We saw a couple dogs up on a roof of a building and they looked cute! Did you know Puerto Rico stands for “rich port” since the Spanish and Portuguese would come here for all the riches of sugar cane, cocoa and other items. Columbus first discovered it but Ponce de Leon was the first governor of the island. It was also a critical location for the US Military during the time when Fidel Castro was in Cuba and the whole Cuban Missile Crisis with the Soviets.

After our excursion we grabbed lunch at the outside patio near the pool. We were bad and had hot dogs, cheeseburgers and fries. Their fries are the best, so crunchy! After lunch we played trivia and didn’t do great but it was fun!

We got cleaned up and went to dinner. The food once again was very good. I haven’t had a meal I didn’t like! We also asked to have a couple special items for tomorrow night’s dinner. We loved the escargot for an appetizer and the chocolate chip lave cake for dessert. So we get to have it again tomorrow night! Yum!

After dinner we did the usual… hung out listening to Elise and Eli. They are sooo good!

Like I said the next two days are sea days so it should be really relaxing. Hope everyone had a great Thursday!

PS: I included a picture of the auto inspection sticker on all the cars and in a shout out to all my family and friends in Pittsburgh, it has Roberto Clemente on it. He played for the Pittsburgh Pirates and was probably one of the most famous baseball players from Puerto Rico. Sadly, he died years ago in a plane crash when trying to deliver food and clothing to the poor people of Puerto Rico.
