Southern Caribbean Cruise – Day 7 – Jost Van Dyke, British Virgin Islands – 4/5/23!

Hi all! It was just another day in paradise today… but it started off with the weather being iffy. When we first arrived it was party sunny and no rain. Then around 9:30 AM we had a torrential downpour. Then the sun came back out around 10:30 so we decided to take the tender over to Jost Van Dyke. Well we got down to the bottom deck to board the tender and it’s raining again! So they held the tenders for awhile but then started them up again even though it was raining lightly.

We got to the port and it’s still sprinkling but they have a covered open air bus to take us to the beach. When we arrive at the beach it’s still sprinkling so we decided to look thru the shops they had. After that the sun came out and it ended up being a gorgeous day! Crazy weather!

Jost Van Dyke is the smallest of the four islands that make up the British Virgin Islands measuring only 3 square miles. It’s volcanic in origin like the others and somewhat mountainous. It’s mostly made up of beautiful beaches and coves with bars along the beach.

One of the most famous of those bars is the Soggy Dollar, which we visited. It got its name from way back when there was neither a road nor a dock near it and boaters had to anchor offshore and swim in and pay with wet money or “soggy dollars”! It’s also the birthplace of the popular drink known as the painkiller.

The water there was so clear and blue that you could just stay there all day and feel like you were truly in paradise. There were lots of boats anchored in the cove with tons of people hanging out in the bars. We stayed for awhile and soaked in the beauty!

After we got back on board we hung at the pool for awhile then Kathy went to play trivia and I went to get a shower. We got ready for dinner and went to the main restaurant which had a set chef’s menu of like 8 dishes all of which were really good. Check out the pics!

After dinner we went to the main show which was a gentleman named Matthew Croke who played the lead for Aladdin in London’s West End. He sang songs thru all the musicals he’d been in over the years such as A Chorus Line, Grease, Wicked, West Side Story, Singing in the Rain, and ending with his role that catapulted his career which was playing the lead in Aladdin. He was a great singer and a great storyteller taking us thru his whole life!

After the show we ended our night like we usually do listening to the sweet smooth sounds of Elise and Eli.

Tomorrow is our last port day at San Juan Puerto Rico! Hope everyone had a great Hump Day!
