Hi guys! Happy April Fool’s!! Hope you didn’t get fooled too bad today. We had another great day without any trickery. We didn’t have a planned excursion today so we slept in, had a leisurely breakfast and got off the ship around 10:30. The breakfast in the Colonnade was very good. You could have anything made to order or select from their already made items. I love my smoked salmon for breakfast and have it on every cruise ship. I noticed theirs seems better than any I’ve had. Not sure what it was but it was really tasty (maybe it was the capers!?).
So we figured we’d just get off the ship and see if there’s a local taxi person to take us on a 2-3 hour tour around the island and then maybe do some shopping around the port. Gotta get the grandkids stuff!
So as soon as we get off the ship we meet Sebastian who was this really nice taxi driver who has the “official” Grenada Tourist jacket on (we actually thought it might be an April Fool’s Joke Lol) and he explained that he had this 2-3 hour tour around the island. So we said sure! But he wanted to wait to see if he could get one other couple which would make him more money and make it cheaper for us. Win-Win!
So after waiting about 15 minutes he found this really cool couple who were on our ship but we hadn’t met them yet. So they joined us and we all had a great tour together. They (Patrick and Rosemary) were originally from Ireland but now live in Dubai but also spend some of their time in London where they lived for awhile.
Our tour went all over the island and since it’s known as the spice island, the first stop was to a spice shop where he explained all the different spices letting us smell and taste them. Never knew my favorite thing in the world (chocolate!) had the type of beans that he showed us. It’s funny, when we were leaving, this beautiful butterfly landed on the cocoa beans and was tasting them. I had to take a picture since that’s my kind of butterfly!
We then stopped at various lookout points, saw a fort, saw the jail (yep, and it had the best view on the island! Lol), and went to a beach. It was a great tour and we learned a lot about Grenada. I told Sebastian I’d recommend him to anyone I know that’s coming to Grenada.
After the tour we did some shopping near the port and then got back on the ship. We were back in time to do trivia which is the first time we’ve done it on Seabourn. We joined up with others and had a group of ten of us. It was really fun but we came in next to last! Lol. Everyone had to have a team name so ours was “April Fools”!
After that we got ready for dinner and went to the Colonnade for a special Thomas Keller dinner night. If you don’t know Thomas Keller (I didn’t!), he’s the famous American chef that owns the fancy restaurant in California called The French Laundry. He’s got a specialty dining restaurant on all Seabourn ships but you’re only allowed one reservation per cruise so all can try it (we’re scheduled for the last night of the cruise) but they occasionally do a special Thomas Keller inspired event in the other restaurants. So we made a reservation for tonight to try it. The food was all served family style and there was tons of it. We started off with a nice salad, then pork ribs with baked beans, cole slaw and corn bread. (I have to admit, and Kathy confirmed it, my ribs are better! Maybe I should open up a fancy restaurant! But I’d call it The Italian Laundry! Lol.)
The last two courses were this creamy cheese with flat bread and a tasty mustard as well as blueberry cheesecake that was to die for. All in all a fantastic meal!
We ended the night listening to our new favorite duo, Elise and Eli, where she sings and he plays the acoustical guitar. Such soothing music!
On to the island of Martinique tomorrow! We better brush up on our French! Bon jour!
