Hi all! Happy Friday! Today’s word of the day was definitely WATER and lots of it! Not only did we get to see the most amazing waterfalls we’ve ever seen but it POURED down rain most of the afternoon which was fine because we took a boat right up to the Falls and got SOAKED! But it was sooo much fun!
We started the day off early when the bus driver came at 8 AM to take us to the Falls. Our first trip was a train ride to get to the trail that takes us to the upper falls. Before we took the train though we saw an animal called a Coatie that has a raccoon type tail. There were several little baby Coaties running around and I got a picture of one. They are so cute! We also saw a cool looking bird in the tree and I got its picture too.
We then hiked to the upper falls and saw several incredible views. We’d walk part of the way and see falls, then walk further and see more, then we got a panoramic view of the entire upper falls. Just amazing. The pictures can’t capture the magnitude and power of the rushing water. But I have some videos that come close!
We then walked to the lower falls and saw even more beauty and incredible views. After that we stopped for lunch. Right before lunch it started to rain a little bit but during lunch the rain came down harder that I’ve ever seen it. Luckily we bought a couple poncho type cover ups since from about 1 PM on it pretty much poured all afternoon. But we’re in a rain forest so what do we expect?? Lol
We then board these open air buses to take us to the boat ramp. Yes, if we weren’t wet enough we took this speed boat with about 40 people on it to the front edge of the falls and as I said we got SOAKED! So the poncho I guess helped a little but the water from the falls hit us so hard it drenched us.
We then took the bus back to the hotel, got showered and wanted to relax before dinner but realized our bathroom had flooded. As if we didn’t have enough water today!! So we called the front desk and they came right away to mop it up. But right across the hall from us was Sue and Stuart’s room and they came out and said their whole room was flooded whereas ours was just the bathroom. So they gave us another room and it was nice and dry.
We went to dinner and made it an early night since we had another 8 AM pickup time. Tomorrow we’ll see the Brazilian side of the Falls and then fly home on an overnight flight. That is going to be a LONG day! Hope everyone has a great weekend!
