Hi all! Today was a sea day but not your typical sea day. We were cruising thru some narrow passageways with fjords on both sides of the ship. With that scenario, that’s why I love having a rear balcony since we get a 180 degree view of the fjords as we cruise along. And since we weren’t going thru the fjords until close to Noon, we went to listen to two speakers in the morning.
The topic of the first speaker was all about fjords. He explained how fjords are created by glaciers but that only certain parts of the world have fjords. Fjords are found mainly in Norway, Chile, New Zealand, Canada, Greenland, and the U.S. state of Alaska. We are very blessed in that within roughly the last six months we have seen fjords in Norway, Chile and Alaska. Sounds like we need to plan trips to New Zealand, Greenland and Canada to make it a clean fjord sweep!
The second speaker discussed living and working in Antarctica.
He was the same speaker from a few days ago and had actually lived there doing research for over two years. Given how cold it can get there that is quite an accomplishment! He also showed some great slides and I added pics of a few in my blog.
After the talks we went and grabbed lunch and took it to our room so we could sit on our balcony and take in the beautiful scenery. I’ve included several pictures but they just don’t do it justice. At first it was sunny and then it was rainy, then sunny, then rainy, and it stayed that way the whole day! But it still was amazingly beautiful (and peaceful!).
After watching the fjords we watched the Bills vs Dolphins playoff game at one of the bars. Kathy lived in Miami so she’s a huge Dolphins fan! The Dolphins came back strong and almost won but came up short and lost. Kathy cried and cried (just kidding!). After the game we grabbed dinner and listened to some live music.
Tomorrow is another sea day but again should have some amazing scenery since we’ll be cruising by several glaciers. Can’t wait!
PS: Pics coming later!
