Antarctica – Day 7 – Cruising the coast of Chile still!

Friday Jan 13, 2023

Hi Gang! Happy Friday the 13th! Guess who was holding their breath the whole day? So it all started last night when we got back to our room and there was a note that we all had to take a Covid test. Seriously, on Friday the 13th after we know somebody looked into that statue’s eyes??? And if we test positive we have to quarantine in our room for 5 days! The only good thing last night was our room steward gave us a cute elephant towel animal!

So the note said we had to take the Covid test between 9 and 10:30 AM and show the results to our room steward. Whew… luckily we all tested negative! YAY!!

After breakfast we played some trivia (didn’t even come close to winning!) then went to listen to a speaker discuss the Pacific Ring of Fire.

I really didn’t know what the Pacific Ring of Fire was. The speaker was excellent and showed how it encompassed the shorelines around the entire Pacific Ocean. It also included 40,000 islands. He also showed the relationship between earthquakes and volcanoes and how they were plotted along the same line, which in essence made up the Tectonic plates that lead to earthquakes. Really cool stuff. But the way our luck is running, we might get to experience a volcano! Lol

After that talk we had a light lunch since at 3 PM we were going to Afternoon Tea. That was a nice experience. We sat with another couple from Denver, Colorado and sipped our tea and ate the cute little cakes and sandwiches they had prepared for us. We felt like royalty!

We then played trivia with a couple from San Francisco who were really nice. Even between the four of us we only got 12 questions right out of 30! The questions were really hard! Who knew the longest river in England was the Severn?? And we didn’t have Sue and Stuart there to help us with that one!

After trivia we had a nice dinner in the dining room. While the food is really good the service is a little bit slow. It took us over two hours to eat dinner so that made us late for the show. It really didn’t matter since the show with a male singer was just OK. After the show we went to listen to the dueling piano players which we really like.

Our port tomorrow is called Puerto Chacabuco and is a town in Patagonia, southern Chile, known as a jumping-off point for the Aysén fjords. We had an excursion planned for one hour after we arrived in port which was supposed to be at 11 AM. But since we skipped our last port the captain made up some time so we’ll now start our excursion at 9 AM which isn’t too bad but since this is a tender port we’ll have to get off the boat by 8 AM.

Oh well, we’re just glad we made it thru Friday the 13th without any major hiccups! But then again it’s still only 10 PM here! Hope everyone is well!
