Hi gang! We made it home late Sat night with all our luggage and nowadays that’s a huge success! Well, the adventure of our standby travels did not disappoint. As always there were several twists and turns!
We woke up Sat morning and saw that most of the direct flights were pretty tight if not oversold as were some of the connecting flights so we knew we were up for a fun day. We decided to try for the 9:14 AM direct flight first and if we didn’t get on that one we’d take the 9:45 AM flight connecting thru Atlanta which was only a 5 minute walk away to that gate. That was until they changed our gate to an almost 20 minute walk away. But we thought we’d go talk to the gate agent for the direct flight to see what our chances were. After realizing we probably wouldn’t get on, we walked back to the gate for the Atlanta flight. We definitely got our steps in since LAX is a huge airport!
So we had plenty of time for our Atlanta flight and got on with no problem. And we probably shouldn’t have done it but we checked the system and it showed we actually would have gotten on the direct flight since several people didn’t show up (but you never know!). Of course the other thing about switching flights is our luggage was tagged on the 9:14 flight to go straight to Charlotte but we were good with that.
The flight to Atlanta was uneventful and we had plenty of time for our layover. But when we got to our gate in Atlanta one of the passengers waiting at the gate starts getting loud and belligerent. He kept saying his mother died and he had to get to Charlotte. He also said he was videotaping everyone and going to send it to American Airlines. Eventually security came and took him away. Of course, I feel for the guy no matter what his situation was but I have to be honest and say I’m glad he wasn’t on our flight and potentially flip out when we’re at 50,000 feet. Never a dull moment!
So we get to Charlotte and we both checked a bag and each had an Apple AirTag in it (I love those things!) but it said our bags were still in LA! So we figured the luggage would probably be sent on the red eye flight and we’d drive back to the airport on Sun to get them. So I went to get the car while Kathy went to Luggage Control to have them check it and make sure they get sent. But the luggage actually was there and we were able to get them and head home! Not sure what flight it came in on but was glad to see they got there.
Well we had another great cruise and I hope you enjoyed traveling along with us. We’re actually taking a few months off from cruising to enjoy the holidays and spend time with family and friends. But get your seat belts on and get ready for our next big cruise. We leave in early Jan for a bucket list trip for both of us to Antarctica! The cruise will be 22 days but we’re adding some days before and after the cruise so we’ll be gone almost a month. It starts in Santiago, Chile and travels pretty much around the southern portion of South America, spends 4 days in Antarctica and then goes up the coast to Buenos Aires. Did I tell you I love Bank of America and how they give me the flexibility to work and travel!
Hope everyone has a great holiday season and we’ll see you in a couple months. I didn’t get any pics on our travel day other than this one coming into the port of LA at about 6 AM!
