OK, I changed my mind… I love port days too! We had an amazing time in Puerto Vallarta today. We had a snorkeling and sailing excursion. The weather was picture perfect… 84, sunny and not a cloud in the sky! But that meant I had to lather up my little head with lots of sunscreen. And as I tell my kids, I had to apply and reapply since we were in and out of the water and the sun is a lot more intense this far south. Was that the equator we swam by?? Lol.
So we started our excursion at 10 AM and didn’t get back till after 3:00. I normally don’t do many excursions thru the ships and prefer to find ones on my own since they are usually less expensive and I can read Trip Advisor reviews on them. But for this trip, I decided to book all the excursions thru the ship. I’m not normally a paranoid type person but with everything you read about the drug cartels in Mexico having shootouts in tourist areas I felt it was safer to do these thru the ship. Heck there was even a guy at the gate carrying a machine gun type weapon. Of course I got a picture with him!
The sailboat we were in held 28 but there were only 14 of us so we had plenty of room to spread out. It was first class in every way. Of course they had the bar open all day. Only ten minutes in they served a snack of tuna ceviche with avocado, tomato and cucumber that was served on a round tortilla. It was so good. We then sailed along the coast checking out all the beautiful scenery.
Then we stopped and snorkeled for about two hours. We saw sting rays, turtles, eels, and all kinds of tropical fish. They also had a big mat out where you could lay in the water to sunbathe. They also provided stand up paddle boards for those that wanted to try them. We passed on that one. I figured if I’m going to fall in the water, I might as well just jump in!
After we were all done in the water they served an amazing lunch of Prosciutto, smoked salmon, provolone cheese, roasted red peppers, black olives, good Italian bread, grapes, dates filled with goat cheese, and the best chocolate brownies. It was all so yummy!
We then sailed back just taking in the scenery. It was so peaceful just lounging in the boat, soaking up the warmth and listening to great music. Everyone was singing along!
After we got back, Kathy snuck off to do a little shopping and I got back on the boat to shower and relax before dinner. Speaking of which it was excellent again tonight. Kathy had a pork Marsala (thought that was only for chicken?) and I had a traditional Thanksgiving dinner with all the fixins (it’s Nov, why not!).
After dinner we skipped the main show to stalk our Hispanic duet friends called “Strings Attached” and listened to two of their sets. They really play some great music. I need to see if they sell a CD (OK, I just aged myself there!).
Tomorrow we stop in Cabo San Lucas and we’re doing another snorkeling and sailing excursion. They say the weather will be the same tomorrow, sunny and 82… wash, rinse, repeat… love it!
Hope everyone got out to vote today. Kathy and I both voted absentee. Happy Election Day!
